Grain-Free Superseed Granola: Your New Favorite Wholesome Breakfast

One of the most rewarding aspects of the blogging world is the vibrant community and the opportunity to connect with fellow creators, authors, and culinary enthusiasts. The immense dedication and passion required to bring a cookbook to life is something I understand deeply. Therefore, whenever a friend in the blogging sphere releases a new book, it’s a moment of genuine celebration for me. Recently, the latest culinary masterpiece from my dear blogger friend, Pamela Salzman, graced my doorstep: her phenomenal cookbook, Kitchen Matters (Amazon affiliate link).

From the moment I began turning its beautifully designed pages, I’ve been completely engrossed in the collection of nourishing, exquisitely crafted recipes. Pamela’s approach to cooking resonates profoundly with my own philosophy: a celebration of vibrant, whole foods that are not only incredibly healthy but also undeniably delicious. It’s a joy to discover recipes that prioritize both well-being and exceptional flavor. I am absolutely thrilled that Pamela has graciously allowed me to share one of her standout recipes with you today: this utterly irresistible Grain-Free Superseed Granola.

Discover the Delight of Grain-Free Granola

This particular grain-free granola recipe stands out from the rest. It boasts a perfectly light and crispy texture, strikes an impeccable balance between sweet and salty, and offers enchanting hints of warming cinnamon and delicate vanilla. For anyone who appreciates the finer details in their breakfast, this granola promises a delightful experience. What I particularly cherish about crafting homemade granola, including this fantastic recipe, is the complete control it offers over the ingredients. You dictate the quality of each component and precisely how much sugar goes into it, ensuring a product that aligns perfectly with your dietary preferences and health goals.

Beyond personal enjoyment, homemade granola makes for a thoughtful and much-appreciated gift, especially during the holiday season or for any special occasion. You might recall my popular Chocolate Granola, another recipe packed with beneficial superfood seeds, or perhaps the Tropical Granola featured in my own cookbook. However, this Grain-Free Superseed Granola truly holds a special place. Its perfection is evident, and it’s no surprise why it has become such a resounding success in Pamela’s cooking classes and within her own family. It’s a recipe that truly delivers on taste, texture, and wholesome goodness.

This flexibility makes it an invaluable resource for anyone looking to incorporate more plant-based meals into their diet, or simply to explore delicious, wholesome options. Pamela possesses an undeniable talent for developing recipes that truly celebrate real food – a philosophy that aligns perfectly with my own passion for vibrant, natural ingredients.

The Nutritional Powerhouse of Seeds and Nuts

If you’ve been searching for a delicious and effortless way to integrate more nutrient-dense nuts and seeds into your daily diet, then look no further! This Grain-Free Superseed Granola recipe offers an exceptionally tasty solution. Nuts and seeds are tiny powerhouses of nutrition, providing an abundant supply of essential macronutrients and micronutrients that are crucial for overall health and well-being. They are rich in plant-based protein, which is vital for muscle repair and growth, and brimming with healthy fats, including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, known for their anti-inflammatory properties and benefits for heart health.

Furthermore, these incredible ingredients are excellent sources of dietary fiber, which not only aids in digestion and promotes gut health but also plays a significant role in keeping us feeling full and satiated for longer periods. This sustained feeling of fullness can be incredibly beneficial for managing appetite and maintaining healthy eating habits. With this granola, you’re not just enjoying a delightful snack or breakfast; you’re fueling your body with a concentrated burst of energy, essential vitamins, and minerals. Imagine sprinkling this crunchy, flavorful granola generously over a creamy yogurt parfait, adding texture to a vibrant smoothie bowl, enhancing your morning oatmeal, elevating a chia pudding, or simply enjoying it by the handful as a satisfying afternoon snack. Its versatility makes it a perfect addition to countless meals throughout your day.

Why Choose Grain-Free? The Benefits Explored

The movement towards grain-free eating has gained considerable traction for good reason, with many individuals reporting significant health improvements. For some, grains, particularly gluten-containing ones, can lead to digestive discomfort, bloating, and inflammation. Opting for a grain-free alternative like this superseed granola can be a game-changer, offering a lighter feel and potentially reducing these issues. This granola provides all the satisfying crunch and flavor you expect from traditional granola without the grains, making it an excellent choice for those following paleo, ketogenic (with mindful adjustments for sugar), or simply gluten-free lifestyles.

Beyond digestive benefits, a diet rich in nuts and seeds contributes to stable blood sugar levels due to their high fiber and healthy fat content. This helps in avoiding the energy crashes often associated with high-carbohydrate, sugary breakfasts. By choosing this grain-free granola, you’re not just avoiding potential irritants; you’re actively choosing a breakfast option that supports sustained energy, promotes satiety, and contributes to a balanced, nutrient-rich diet. It’s about making a conscious choice for your body without compromising on the joy of eating delicious food.

An addictive healthy vegan, grain-free granola recipe loaded with wholesome seeds and nuts, perfect for a nourishing breakfast or snack.

Grain-Free Superseed Granola, a delicious and healthy snack or breakfast.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups raw pecans, walnuts, or a combo, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
  • 1 cup raw pumpkin seeds (pepitas)
  • 3/4 cup raw hulled sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup hemp seeds
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon flaky sea salt, such as Maldon (or sub fine-grain sea salt)
  • 1/4 cup unrefined virgin coconut oil, melted
  • 1/4 cup pure Grade A maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup muscovado sugar, coconut sugar, or light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure almond extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175°C). Line a large, rimmed baking sheet with unbleached parchment paper. This prevents sticking and makes for easy cleanup.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a blender or food processor, pulse 1 cup of the chosen nuts (pecans or walnuts) until they are very finely chopped. Transfer these finely chopped nuts to a large mixing bowl. Add the remaining cup of roughly chopped nuts, unsweetened flaked coconut, raw pumpkin seeds (pepitas), raw hulled sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, sesame seeds, ground cinnamon, and flaky sea salt. Stir thoroughly to ensure all the dry ingredients are well combined.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the melted unrefined virgin coconut oil, pure Grade A maple syrup, your choice of muscovado sugar (or coconut sugar/light brown sugar), pure vanilla extract, and pure almond extract until the mixture is completely smooth and well blended. It is crucial to emulsify the oil and syrup properly at this stage; inadequate mixing can cause the syrup to burn during baking. Pour this wet mixture over the combined nut and seed ingredients in the large bowl and stir diligently to ensure every piece is evenly coated.
  4. Bake to Perfection: Transfer the coated granola mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread it out into an even layer to ensure uniform baking. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes, keeping in mind that oven temperatures can vary. Stir the granola occasionally during baking to prevent burning and promote even browning. The granola will turn a beautiful golden brown. Do not expect it to be crunchy directly out of the oven; it will crisp up considerably as it cools.
  5. Cool and Store: Once baked, remove the granola from the oven and allow it to cool completely on the baking sheet. This cooling process is essential for achieving that desired crunchy texture. Once cooled, carefully transfer the granola to an airtight container. Store at room temperature for up to 1 week to maintain freshness, or freeze for up to 3 months for longer-term storage.
